The Potts' Family for August

The Grace of Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

Much has changed for us since our last letter. At the beginning of the summer we were enjoying a little family time, getting ready to send Chad off for his annual Air Force Training and packing our home in Fort Wayne. We are now living in the highest incorporated city in the U.S. with a view of the highest (Mt. Elbert) and second highest (Mt. Massive) peaks in the Rockies out our window!

The journey for us began in July. The kids and Michelle took a trip to Wisconsin to visit with family. While there we spent some time with cousins, a day with Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Breeden and the rest of the family, and then Michelle left the boys in the care of Grandparents while she returned to Fort Wayne to complete packing and cleaning the house. Chad came home from Air Force Training on July 22 and we left for Wisconsin on the 23rd. We spent a few more days visiting and then left for Colorado on July 27.

We took our time traveling to Colorado and stopped to see some of the sights along the way. Our first day of travel included a flat tire, a trip to the SPAM museum and finally our destination of Des Moines. Day 2 included a stop at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum. We spent that night with an old college friend of Michelle’s in Kearney, Nebraska. Day 3 we were on the road to Denver and stopped at the Buffalo Bill Estate. We arrived in Denver on Thursday and Friday morning met with Chad’s supervisor, Pastor Christian Rasmussen, for breakfast. We did a little Denver sightseeing and made the trip up the mountain to our new home in Leadville!

On Sunday Chad was installed as the Vicar of Good Shepherd Lutheran in Leadville and Christ Lutheran in Breckenridge. Most of Chad’s duties over this year will be in Leadville, but once a month Pastor C and Chad will switch places. We didn’t have a lot of time to spend with the Good Shepherd people on Sunday, so on Wednesday they had a great welcome dinner for us. We also hit the ground running. The next weekend was the town’s annual Boom Days and with the festival came a parade, so we designed our trailer into a float and let the boys hand out candy. The following week was spent baking cookies and we had a bake sale at the Bike fest and made cookies for the Trail 100 Bike Race. This week we are also fundraising for a 100 mile Foot Race.

Our time here has not been all work and no play. We have also taken the time to do some awesome trail hikes, bike rides, and took the Leadville Train. For Seth’s Birthday 5th birthday we took a White Water Rafting trip. Stay Tuned Next Month for more of how the LORD is blessing us and the ministry here in Leadville, Colorado!
